Diablo 4: Best Classes

Jun-08-2023

Thus far, most of the discourse around Diablo 4 has centered on the classes. Check out this Tier List to see which ones came out on top.

Diablo 4 builds on a rich history that continues to characterize the action RPG classification. The franchise has had its ups and downs, but Diablo 4 has thus far been generally welcomed. Many consider it a significant high-point for the franchise.

One of many aspects that have players so excited is the robust set of character classes. Blizzard is still refining them, but what's on offer at launch is a dynamic, balanced roster of classes with exceptional play styles. Some of the classes are more impressive than others, but none are out and out unplayable. The accompanying class tier list ranks the best and worst classes in Diablo 4.

Updated on June sixth, 2023: The previous version of this Diablo 4 Class Tier List was originally published during Blizzard's beta period. The aide has been revised to reflect Diablo 4's full launch.

Diablo 4 Tier List

Blizzard has made a couple of tweaks to Diablo 4's classes, but so far their power levels remain largely unchanged. The accompanying class tier list details how each class compares in ease of play and overall power, from best to worst. Blizzard will most likely continue to refine the classes, but this is the way they stand as of now:

S Rank - Sorcerer

Sorcerers occupy this tier alone thanks to their overwhelmed survivability and sheer damage yield. While different classes are more balanced-and accordingly will generally be more enjoyable the Sorcerer is clearly the best class in each quantifiable category. Blizzard did nerf this class at launch, but they missed the target.

A Rank - Necromancer

Necromancers probably won't be strong on the same scale as Sorcerers, but they're arguably the best class to play solo. There's a lot of build diversity to appreciate, and the Necromancer-while still overwhelmed is much more balanced than the Sorcerer.

B Rank - Barbarian and Rogue

Barbarians are strong, hard to kill, and slightly disappointing. They have a nice balance of challenge and accessibility that makes them an excellent choice for new Diablo players.

The Rogue is impressive, but it does have a high skill ceiling. It takes a ton of work to inspire it to cause as much harm as the Necromancer, and that being said, it has to depend on perfect positioning to stay survivable.

C Rank - Druid

The Druid got the short finish of the stick this time around. It's the weakest class in Diablo 4, but it isn't all bad. They aren't unplayable, but it does take an unmistakable Druid build to make them as strong as they can be. This means that players are virtually attached to that build all through the game, and that's not great. Blizzard has made a couple of adjustments, but there's still some work to be finished to get the Druid up to the power level of different classes.

Thankfully, this tier list doesn't require a "D," "E," or "F" rank. These classes are not really inside and out unplayable or totally broken. That said, there is opportunity to get better. Blizzard is responding to a ton of feedback from players about the class balance. From its looks, the team be tweaking and refining things from here onward, indefinitely.
